Share the details early. Tell the baker or chef the date, the number of guests, the flavours or dishes you want and any theme for a cake. Photos of designs you like help. Custom cakes and large orders usually need a few days' notice, and more during festivals.
Ask about ingredients and diet needs. Ask whether the food is eggless, vegetarian, halal or Jain friendly if that matters to you, and mention any allergies such as nuts, gluten or dairy. A good home kitchen will tell you honestly what it can and cannot make.
Check hygiene and freshness. Ask how the food is packed, how long it stays fresh and how it should be stored.
